The Best 5 Years of Treefort Memories
Today I slept in, put on my brightest leggings and rearranged the living room just in time for Yogafort’s live broadcast. Now, late at night, I have still not left the house. Not how I would normally plan to spend a Treefort Sunday, but these are not normal times. As we’ve been hidden inside our house for the last week instead of out living it up in Downtown Boise, I felt inspired to create a silly piece of art to commemorate 5 awesomely silly years of Treeforting.
Treefort has always been an event that we tackled together and for me, it’s also always been about taking photos. We wandered into Treefort’s second year and took a few sips in Alefort before knowing that this was something we had to be a part of. So, starting in 2014 we signed up as volunteers. And yea, you get a sweet volunteer shirt every year. 5 years of volunteering later (we missed one year of Treefort while we were off traveling the world) and it’s still one of our favorite activities.
That first volunteer year also marked the first month that I really started taking photography seriously. I’d always had a passion for snapping photos of whatever life threw my way, but starting in March 2014 I switched my camera to full manual and started learning and practicing as much as I can. If you scroll down you’ll be able to see how my work has evolved. That first year I had no idea what my camera was doing, and it’s amazing to see myself grow as an artist through the lens of Treefort Music Festival.
Treefort 2020 will be historic for us. In addition to being the first (and hopefully only) one to be postponed 6 months thanks to the Coronavirus, it will be the first time that neither of us attend the festival as volunteers. Instead, Matt will be riding in totally unburdened after snagging a highly coveted early bird ticket, and I’ll be helping the festival as staff, co-leading the volunteer photo team.
So here’s to Treefort 9.5, Fall Edition. I know you’re gonna be so awesome when you finally get here.
I highly recomend experiencing Treefort as a volunteer. It’s the coolest feeling to be one of the many many folks who make this fun and welcoming festival happen each year. You can learn more about volunteering, or Treefort in general, here.
While you’re waiting for the festival to start, check out some of my photos from past year’s.
